Where does this color tradition come from? Apparently, much of the origin is attributed to Chinese customs. In the symbolism of Asia red is the color of good wishes, of good luck. It was used for centuries even for weddings and only in the era of globalization, it is undergoing the “competition” of white for the wedding dresses. According to the legend, since ancient men used the red to chase and scare the Niàn, a ferocious beast that in the period of New Year came out from the sea to feed on human flesh, this color had the power to ward off evil spirits.
Some “fault”, then, there would be the Romans. In 31 BC, at the time of Octavian Augustus, women and men who wore something red during the Roman New Year were in fact representatives of the ruling class.
